The vast majority of southern families did not own slaves.
The slaves were owned by the wealthy, the businessmen, and the plantation owners.
They convinced tens of thousands of southern men to go fight and possibly die, for the wealthy's right to own slaves.

I generally try to stay away from the Hollywood scene, but I saw where Eureka has been cancelled.
I would not consider Eureka as one of my favorite shows,but I do watch it in between baseball seasons.
It has great writing and pretty decent acting, considering the whole show is based on silly premise.
Just as a personal note. I would liked to have seen more of Beverly Barlow, but they didn't seem to have room for an evildoer in the main cast.
It seems that the main failing of the show was that it didn't star a bunch of snotnosed teenagers.
I guess it shows my age, but I am surprised that teens have nothing else to do but watch TV.
Which explains why they look like they are trying out for the sumo wrestling team.

Last fall T Boone Pickens oil magnate, went before congress and admitted it was a war for oil.
We all knew it was a war for oil, even those who promoted the war, but it was nice to see him admit it.
The more I read of this the more disgusted I became. Mr Pickens claims that the US energy companies deserve the Iraqi oil.
Well first Professor Obvious can tell you that the oil belongs to the Iraqi people.
What does Mr Pickens use as his reasoning? The trillion dollars or so that was spent and the more than 5000 American lives.
That is what frosted my spinach.
Some how that gives the energy companies the right to make more of a profit from the American people.

What you didn't hear was that the vast majority of the e-mails had nothing to do with global warming. They were generic e-mails of interest to nobody but the sender and reciever. The few that did mention global warming only proves that there are those who are willing to use an issue to help themselves. To prove that all you need to do is to see how many lackeys are getting paid off by the energy companies to attack global warming.
These e-mails came to us thanks to the Ruskies.

Next you have the birther queen Orly Taitz. The fact that she is completely looney isn't the point. She is from Eastern Europe and (ta da) works for the Ruskies.

Then you have Sarah Palin calling for another revolution, while her and others from the extreme right are calling for another Civil War. This would, of course, leave America completely undefended. To stabilize the situation somebody(The Ruskies for instance) would have to come to America as peace keepers.
Folks they would come here with the intention of never leaving, the US is good at that.

I guess when a person has been around long enough, things that happen remind me of a movie or TV show I have seen. We have a president who is groveling up to the republicans, corporate interests, and war mongers.
The show is not on Hulu or any similar site I have found. It is on Youtube. In the search bar type 'Trial by Fire+Outer Limits'. It is divided into 5 sections to watch the full episode.

A newly elected leftist president is grabbed from an Inaugural Ball and taken to a secure location. He is informed that we are about to come into contact with aliens, the outer space kind. He has none of his own people in place and all of the advisors are from the previous far right administration.
Oh, you can see where this is going.
He is told that a pre-emptive attack is our only option.
Turns out that the aliens were some sort of an intergalactic welcome wagon.
By the end of the show, we are exchanging warheads with them.
As the would have been first lady said "If you had just stuck by your principles."

With all the talk about the stimulus packages, we haven't achieved that much. I believe that President Obama really does want to be successful, but he is caught in the same system that doesn't work. He will appoint progressive Wall Streeters to help solve the problem. The problem is that these people, good intentions or not, are still more concerned with Wall St. than they are main street. I am specifically talking about the banking system.
Sure, our lending institutions are a disaster.
The government is basically taking over the banking system.
They are going to spend billions. hundreds of billions, to repair the damage.
Sure that is a lot of money but I have no problem with it so far.
This is where my major issue comes in.
After repairing the damage they are going to sell these banks back to the same people who destroyed them in the first place.
These greedy fools can't hardly wait for this to happen. They will again be able to give themselves exorbitant salaries and reward each other with huge bonuses for for committing failure.
This is just plain wrong.
Someone told me once that if the hammer you are using isn't getting the job done,GET A BIGGER HAMMER.
This is where President Obama should pretend he is John Henry and get the biggest sledgehammer he can find.
Smash the banks into the smallest pieces you can find. Make every bank an entity unto itself.

The first time our government built a road for ordinary people to ride their horses and buggys on, that was a socialist act. Allowing people to vote who weren't white landowners was a socialist act. Hugo Chavez might never be our ally, but there was a good chance he would have been our friend. Instead we have an administration who will not accept anything that does follow their one narrow road. With them it is 'my way or the highway'. We have two governments with two sets of ideas, but all we have done is threaten him and call him names.
The rest of this is about our other mistakes in the last century.
Oh, you are one of those blame America people. Well, I say bull, and a lot more, to that. This is historical fact, just look it up for yourselves.

You remember WWII or you at least saw a movie about it. Before the war the area known as Indo China was controlled by the French and Dutch. They pulled their people out to fight the war. During these years the people of Indo China found out that they could get along without their foreign overseers. One of their leaders known as Ho Chi Minh. He pleaded with the US, you can blame Truman for this. He said he wanted to be our friend. The Dutch and French owed the US a great debt and it would be nice for us to tell them not to try and retake the lands in Indo China. We told him to, well it wasn't nice what we told him. He turned to Josef Stalin and asked him to be his friend. The Soviets didn't think twice and we paid for our mistake with over 50,000 dead Americans.
Now we move forward to the early 1950s. The government of what we now call Iran was an elected parliamentary government, like Englands. They voted for members of Parliament who elect a Pmime Minister.
Their PM was Mohammad Mosaddeq who opposed outside intervention and wanted the oil companies to do more to help the Iranian people. Screw with oil profits and you are gone. His government was overthrown by our CIA, and replaced with the brutal Shah. The Shah was happy to let others control the country as long as they lavished gifts on him. He was replaced in the Iranian Revolution, and we have had 30 years of problems with them.
Then we go to the late 1950s to a small island nation called Cuba. It was a perfect example of what Grover Norquist wants America to become. The wealthy elite owned the whole country and the population was mere peasants to be used and abused as they saw fit. So this guy named Fidel Castro overthrows the government. He asks the US to help him rebuild the nation. Again, he didn't agree with us 100% so he was ignored. So Fidel turns to the Soviets who were more than happy to help him. Up until that point Fidel wasn't a communist. And for whatever reason Cuba is still a thorn in our sides. I can only hope that President Obama can solve this problem.
Finally, I don't know the exact years, there was a wealthy Saudi Prince named Osama bin laden. His sense of country and his religion was offended by US bases in Saudi Arabia. We all know the story of Osama if he is even still alive. But what are we doing now? We have plans for huge military bases in Iraq so we can offend another whole generation of Osamas. In the future when they are attacking America or our interests we will only say that we can't figure out why these meanies don't like us.

It should make you wonder about more terrorists attacks in America. It is not a matter of if, but a matter of when. 2009 seems like a likely target date. The first WTC attack happened in Clintons first year. The second attack happened in Bushs first year.

First, do we go after the people who actually did it, or satisfy ourselves with with the death and destruction of people who only look like them? One would think the answer is obvious, but we have too many people in this nation who do not see it that way.
Second, do we try to solve the problems or are we satisfied with the status quo? Again, the answer seems to be obvious, but there are billions of dollars to be made in the war on terror. People will see thousands of dead, including Americans, as a small price to pay for their lust for greed.

There is an old saying(I don't know where it came from) The most dangerous enemy you can face is somebody who has nothing left to loose. Many will gladly say that the problem comes from race or religion. It actually comes from wealth and poverty. The poorest half of all the people in the world, about 3 billion people, control only a little over 1% of the worlds wealth.That has to change. If we could increase it to just 5% we could solve many problems.

Think about the reason we were able to purchase the land. Napolean the child king, wanted a vast military with constant wars and occupations. Well, for this he needed money and lots of it. He did not care about what would be best for his people.

Now we have our own child king and his cohorts.They are willing to sell out this nation to China to raise money so he can be a war president. His reign of errors may be coming to an end, but we will feel the effects of it for decades to come.

I have to admit that I voted for Hillary in the primaries. She would have made a great president as will Mr Obama.
I did have two issues with Barack Obama, but not like those that the white wing trolls polluted the web with.
He is too nice a person and may go out of his way to prove that he is a centerist. Not that it is always bad, it is just not always good either. It depends on the specific issue.
These are the same two issues I had with Jimmy Carter. Over thirty years ago the republicans gave me an alternative to vote for, they didn't this time. As a life long democrat, I had no problem voting for Gerald Ford.
I was right too, Jimmy was too nice of a person to be president.
