Trying to improve yourself is now a felony?

For anybody who doesn't want to read the story.
A black woman going for her teaching certificate sends her kids to a white school but doesn't live in the district.
Not only arrested but charged with a felony.
Now has to spend time in jail, but also can't become a teacher because of being a convicted felon.
