Now about the 588th night bomber squadron

I said last year I might finish this, so now I will.
There is a few similarities between this and what is going on today in the world.
The 588th was called a night bomber squadron, but it is a real stretch to call the PO-2 a bomber. Before the war some of these planes were being used as cropdusters. The PO-2 was a wooden framed cloth covered bi-plane. They had no armor, most were unarmed, and their top speed was less than WWI bi-planes. These planes went up against the best the Luftwaffe had.
People will say a lot of things about Adolph, but one thing he wasn't, was a military genius. The world should be grateful for that. He refused to take advise from his military advisors, now that sure sounds familiar.
When the Russian front began, the Russians moved their production facilities east of the Ural Mountains. They were safe there because the Germans did not have any long range bombers.
While the Russians were building their Yaks and MiGs, in safety, they took their pilots east to learn to fly the new planes. This left a need for flight crews.
The 588th was an all female unit, consisting mostly of college age girls( ladies). As today in the world, they were sacrificing a younger generation in an effort to drive an enemy from their borders.
The damage done by this unit was marginal at best, but they did serve an important role. They kept the Germans awake all night and in their bunkers. They also forced them to use ammo and fuel that they did not have a lot of. What do you want to call it victory by defeat, winning by loosing?

Lilya Litviak-Aug.18,1921-Aug. 1,1943
Born Lidiia Vladimirovna Litviak, she died before her 22nd birthday.She was known as 'The White Rose of Stalingrad', because of a flower painted on the nose of her YAK-1. It was a little odd because the flower was actually a lily, but the name stuck.When I first read about her the first thing that came to my mind was a picture of Woody Guthrie and his guitar. He painted on his guitar, 'This guitar kills fascists'. Well a YAK-1 in the right hands doesn't do a bad job either.Lilya flew with the 586th Air Wing, someday I may post something about the all female 588th Night Bomber Group, the 'Night Witches'. Or again maybe I won't.Just as a side note. These people were fighting for their motherland against the Nazis, not for Stalin. When Lilya was younger, her father was declared an enemy of the state and executed by Stalin

Bush's Iraq is like the options market.

Bush's Iraq is like the options market, and it seems like George and friends have a lot of Put Options in play. If you have a Put Option you profit if the company becomes a disaster and the stock price plummets. If everything had gone well and American troops had been out of there in a couple of months, companies like Halliburton and others in the defense industry would have lost billions in profits. But we have lost thousands of American, tens of thousands of Iraqis and hundreds of billions of taxpayer money because of coorporate greed. Well, I hope they choke on their profits.

Defend America, not the Bush crime family

Just look at the new rules they want. There is not one American citizen who could be safe under these rules.
You can be imprisoned forever without a lawyer, without even a phony trial, without access to the ouside world. These people would just be disappeared like what happened in Argentina, among other places.
There is no place in this bill that says that evidence EVER has to be presented against you.
The evil Bush syndicate makes Nixon and his people look like pikers. All Nixon had was his 'enemies list'. All they could do was make life miserable for people Nixon didn't like, but they still had lives to lead. Nixon was a paranoid delusional, but he wasn't an utter fascist like King George. At least Nixon knew that other Americans existed, other than the richest 5%.
It seem that little King George has issued signing statements to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Bible, which says that they only mean what he says they mean.

A new federal crime---Telling the truth

There was a time you could compare Mike DeWine, only with other republicans, and he would almost seem like a moderate. That time has long passed away. He is in the fight of his life and has decided to join Rick Santorum in the loonie brigade, otherwise known as the bottom of the barrel.
I noticed this a couple of weeks ago when he responded to one of my e-mails. I was surprised because my two Congressmen seldom respond any more. He said he wanted to withdraw American troops, when Iraq was no longer a threat to the world. When was Iraq EVER a threat to the world? What kind of self-induced dream world is he living in? Is Mike tripping out on acid? Even though Saddam was an evil ogre, he only controlled a little speck on the globe. He was the king of nothing, sort of like being mayor of a trailer park.
Now Mike has become more loonier than before. We have a group of people who spot waste, fraud, and abuse in government. They are called whislteblowers, and they bring it to the attention of the public. Now Mike has a bill before Congress that makes telling the truth a felony, punishable by 15 years in prison and a million dollar fine.
Earth to Mike. Your new world must actually be flat, and you have fallen off of the edge.

Mike DeWine, in Ohio, well, he's just incredible. Have you seen the bill he introduced? He's a nutcase - as far as being far-out Right and pro-White House. After this illegal eavesdropping came out - he introduced a bill with 5 or 6 points. The last point in his bill says 'we need to criminalize whistleblowing. Whistleblowers from agencies that deal with National Security or Law Enforcement should be liable to go to jail for up to 15 years and should be fined up to $1 million. The guy actually introduced this! This guy is a fascist!
